Season Dates: Program runs on Mondays from April thru June

Location: Swangard Stadium

It takes many dedicated volunteers to run a successful track practice. Volunteers are needed for timing track events, measuring jumps and shot put distances, and teaching skills in a safe and fun environment aimed at improving performance.

Head Coach’s Message:
This program is committed to providing an environment for competition and participation in all track and field events that promotes equal opportunity and inclusiveness to all registered athletes.

Practices will focus on varied athletics activities with a goal that athletes will acquire basic skills and improve upon general proficiency levels in FUNdamental skills.

In Special Olympic competitions, athletes are grouped in divisions according to events, ability, and gender.

SOBC Burnaby athletics program offers the following track and field events:

  • Track events – 50 m (developmental); 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 4 x 100m relay
  • Distance events – 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m
  • Field events – Standing Long Jump (developmental); Running Long Jump, Shot Put (2.72 kg/6 lbs for women and 4 kg/8.8 lbs for men)
